Two teams riding winning streaks faced off Tuesday in Elkton, with Christian Fellowship catching fire in the fourth quarter to knock off the host Todd County Central Rebels 51-42. The Eagles complete the season sweep over the Rebels and stretch their winning run to five games, while Todd Central sees a three-game win streak come to an end.
The Rebels scored the first 8 points of the game, with 4 each for Preston Moore and Amari Andrews, while holding the Eagles to a single basket to take a 6-point lead into the second quarter.
After a putback by Todd Central’s Anthony Johnson to start the second, the Eagles answered with 5-straight points to tie the game at 10-10 midway through the quarter. Moore put the Rebels back in front with a drive to the basket, but Christian Fellowship closed the half on a 9-0 run to lead 19-12 at the break.
The Rebels’ Preston Rager opened the second half with their first 3-pointer of the game, but they trailed throughout the third quarter. Down 5 with just under two minutes left in the frame, Johnson connected on a baseline jumper and Moore scored on a putback to pull the Rebels within 1 at 27-26 with a quarter to play.
Jacob Brandon scored in the paint to give the Rebels their last lead of the game at 28-27, but the Eagles’ Andrew Allen took over from there. Allen scored a game-high 27 points in the teams’ first meeting but was held to a single basket in the first half on Tuesday. However, he erupted for 15 points over the final eight minutes, including three 3-pointers, to push the Eagles to the win.
The Rebels got as close as 4 after Moore scored and was fouled, but he missed the free throw and the Eagles hit 5 of 6 from the line over the final minute to hold on for the victory.
The Rebels end the week with a pair of 13th-District contests, with Franklin-Simpson visiting on Thursday and Russellville making its way to Elkton on Friday.
