Lyon County equaled the best start in school history Tuesday night, turning back longtime rival Caldwell County 77-64 at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.

Travis Perry had 25 points to lead four Lyons in double figures as Lyon improved to 11-0 to start the season.

Caldwell (3-8) had lost to Lyon by 28 and 30 points in two games earlier this season. But the Tigers appeared capable of an upset early in the game.

Caldwell led for much of the first half, taking its biggest lead at 32-25 late in the second quarter.

But just as it looked like the Tigers might be opening up a workable margin, Lyon struck with a quick 12-0 run.

The Lyons never trailed again after that, but got to halftime with just a 38-36 advantage.

Caldwell was still within 53-47 entering the fourth quarter after a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Tripp Branch to end the third quarter.

But the Tigers could get no closer.

Lyon eventually extended the difference to as much as 15 points before taking the 13-point decision.

The Lyons have beaten the Tigers six straight times now to open up a 78-71 lead in the all-time series.

Gunnar Bingham added 17 points for Lyon while Jack Reddick had 14 points. Jackson Shoulders totaled 13 points despite battling foul trouble.

Branch nailed five 3-pointers and finished with 24 points for Caldwell. Jabrion Spikes added 14 points and Tate VanHooser had 13.

Lyon’s guys will next head to Livingston Central on Thursday for a 5th District date.

Caldwell will go to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Friday for a 7th District contest.
