The season filled with COVID-19 protocols has made it hard to get a good gauge on some of the teams across the region. However, one thing continues to be clear. Lyon County is a very solid basketball team, and for the moment, may have placed themselves in the role of 2nd Region favorite. That said, the Lyons continue to hold the #1 spot in this week’s YSE Boys’ 2nd Region Basketball “Super 7.”

– Lyon County (11-0) – The Lyons are now up to eleven wins in a row, and only two of those have been inside of double figures. They could well be unbeaten when they head off to Richmond for the All A Classic.

– Madisonville-North Hopkins (4-1) – The Maroons came out of quarantine and promptly put a beatdown on Livingston Central. The current schedule gives them a chance to get some momentum built up. Big rematch Saturday at UHA.

– Webster County (11-2) – The Trojans are on a seven-game winning streak and playing pretty well. Big ones back to back this week as they take on Henderson County and Christian County.

– Henderson County (5-4) – Been a tough week for the northern Colonels, after being taken to the woodshed at Lyon County and then being upended by Union County. A very big 6th District battle Friday with Webster County should tell us more about this team.

– University Heights (2-6) – The Blazers looked good in a win over Owensboro Catholic, and then got steamrolled, just like everybody else has against #1 Bowling Green. Back-to-back battles ahead with Christian County and Madisonville.

– Hopkinsville (2-2) – The Tigers are set to remain in COVID-19 protocols until at least February 16.

– Union County (8-5) – The Braves had won four in a row until dropping a tough game to Webster County Tuesday night. Was their win over Henderson a one-time thing, or a possible precursor of things to come? A trip to Lyon on February 9 will tell us more.
