15-0 Run Powers Madisonville Past Caldwell 64-54

A 15-0 run in the third quarter helped Madisonville-North Hopkins beat Caldwell County for the second time this season.

The Maroons went from being down 33-28 to being up 43-33 in the third quarter on the way to a 64-54 victory over the Tigers Friday night in Madisonville.

Kale Gaither scored 16 of his team-high 25 points in the second half as the Maroons improved to 5-2.

Caldwell led for most of the first half and took a 25-23 advantage to halftime.

The Tigers (3-9) led by as much as seven points in the third quarter before Madisonville rallied.

Zach Tow’s 3-pointer tied the game at 33-33, then a drive to the basket by Gaither put the Maroons in front to stay.

Madisonville led 43-35 through three quarters and extended the margin to as much as 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Caldwell crept back to within 61-53 on a layup by Jabrion Spikes with 50 seconds left in the game, but the Tigers could get no closer.

Spikes tallied a game-high 27 points for Caldwell while Tripp Branch added 17.

Tow finished with 11 for Madisonville, which won a month ago in Princeton 62-56.

Both teams will be on the road again Saturday night. The Tigers visit Muhlenberg County while the Maroons travel to University Heights.
