After beginning Saturday with a win over Dawson Springs in the Akridge Ace Hardware Shootout, the Lyon County girl’s basketball returned to the court in the evening at Jason White Gymnasium to roll over Butler County 72-32 for its fifth-straight victory.  The Lady Lyons’ point total is their highest of the season and marks the second time in three games they’ve broken 70 after not reaching it in the previous eleven games.

The Lady Lyons jumped to an 11-4 lead after Calista Collins scored down low on consecutive possessions, part of an 8-point quarter for the senior.  She scored on a layup to stretch the margin to double figures midway through the quarter, and Lyon County led 18-6 after one.

Lyon opened the second on a 15-4 run, capped by a Rose Smith pull-up jumper, to lead 33-10 with 3:27 left in the half.  Collins added 6 more points in the frame and the Lady Lyons took a 37-13 advantage into halftime.

There would be no second-half comeback for the Lady Bears, with Gracen Wynn drilling a pair of 3-pointers to help build the lead.  Lyon led by 36 after senior Katelyn Dykes scored on a layup, but the Lady Bears scored the last 7 points of the third for a 53-24 score.

Wynn stayed hot in the fourth with 7 points, including her fourth 3-pointer of the game.  She finished with 16 points, joined in double figures by Collins and Smith.  Collins’ posted a game-high 19 points to go with 16 rebounds, with Smith also in double figures in each category with 17 and 10.  The Lady Lyons won the battle on the boards with 53 rebounds to the Lady Bears’ 25.

Lyon County will look to make it six in a row when they hit the road on Monday to face Union County.  The Lady Lyons won the first meeting with the Lady Braves 64-55 in early January.
