It appears, at this point, that the top two girls teams in the 2nd Region are a notch above the rest, as we roll towards the final month of the season. The question is can anyone make a dark-horse run towards the top as tourney time draws nearer. For the moment, Henderson County continues to hold a tight grip on the #1 spot in this week’s YSE 2nd Region Girls’ Basketball “Super 7”. Webster County, who lost a tough one to the Lady Colonels is hanging close by in #2. Can someone prevent them from meeting in the regional final?
– Henderson County (7-1) – The northern Lady Colonels are up to 5 wins in a row after taking down Webster County in Dixon. A big contest looming down the road against a very good Marshall County team.
– Webster County (5-6) – The Lady Trojans have won three of their last four, with the only loss coming to Henderson County, in a game the Lady Trojans had a chance to win. Six of their next seven are on the road.
– Lyon County (10-4) – The Lady Lyons have won seven of their last eight, and the only loss to Christian County came without Rose Smith in the lineup. A very interesting matchup with Ohio County coming up.
– Crittenden County (9-3) – The Lady Rockets took a double-digit loss on the road to a rapidly improving Union County team. They are getting ready for their appearance Monday in the All A Classic in Richmon.
– Christian County (5-3) – The Lady Colonels from the south can play defense. If they can ever get their offense clicking on all cylinders, this could be a team that would be no fun to face in the postseason.
– Union County (5-5) – The Bravettes have won four of their last six. The only losses coming to their fellow 6th District residents, Henderson County and Webster County. A bunch of teams would come up 0-2 against that pair.
– Trigg County (7-7) – The Lady Wildcats took back to back losses to Christian County and Calloway County. They were competitive in both games. A string of winnable games on the horizon could give them some momentum.
