It might be the same story we’ve been hearing but really not sure what else Kentucky coach John Calipari can say. He watched again as a game his team had a chance to win got away in Tuesday’s 81-80 loss to Arkansas that dropped UK to 5-13 this season — and in every loss except the home loss to Alabama the Cats had a chance to win.
But scoring droughts, lack of defensive stops, or who knows what else always seemed to turn potential wins into another loss.
“I think, again, you know, this is us — we’re still trying to figure out different things with this team. You probably didn’t know but I changed some stuff up today on how we had spacing on the court, what I did defensively on the halfcourt,” Calipari said in his postgame Zoom conference.
“You probably didn’t notice, but we are trying different things to see what works for this group.”
He should be trying different things because nothing has consistently worked. Kentucky finally hit 14 3-pointers and still lost. Brandon Boston had an efficient scoring game and UK still lost. Kentucky outscored an opponent the final four minutes and still lost.
“I’m not going to stop. I’m coaching. I’m fighting. I’m battling. I’m playing every game. We’ve got one game Saturday. I’m not worried about anything else. We’ve got a game Saturday (against Auburn),” Calipari said.
“So my day will be spent watching this, learning from the tape. It’s done. Let’s get on with the next game. I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t even know who we’re playing. I know we’ve got a game Saturday.”
