University Heights Academy blew open a close game in the second half on the way to a 75-61 victory Saturday evening at Marshall County.
The Blazers trailed 36-35 at halftime at Reed Conder Gymnasium in Draffenville, but seized the upper hand in the third quarter and wouldn’t let go.
UHA (4-5) led 50-43 through three quarters, but went up by as much as 18 points in the final stanza.
With the lead in the fourth quarter, the Blazers were able to spread the floor at the offensive end. That not only took time off the clock, but resulted in several easy baskets as Marshall (3-6) was forced to extend its defense.
Four players scored in double figures for UHA, with D.J. Quarles finishing with 24 and Amani McGee netting 22. Quarles scored 17 of his points in the second half while McGee had nine in the third quarter as the Blazers took the lead for good.
William Bryan added 14 for University Heights while K.J. Crump had 13.
Cole Mills totaled 24 points to lead the Marshals. Quinn Smith and Kaden Driver each had 10 points.
UHA has won three of its last four games but hadn’t played since a 67-58 victory over Madisonville-North Hopkins last Saturday.
Two of the Blazers’ wins this season have been over Marshall. UHA topped the Marshals 77-68 in Hopkinsville on Jan. 9.
