Three former Caldwell County standouts are part of the Murray State Racer football program, which kicks off the new season this Sunday, Feb. 21, with a trip to Southeast Missouri.
Game time in Cape Girardeau is 2 p.m.
The Racers will play their home opener on Feb. 28 against UT Martin.
Redshirt freshman Mitchell Harralson, who spent a year at Western Kentucky University, is listed as backup at long snapper behind Chandler Moody on Murray State’s two-deep depth chart.
Mitchell was rated as a five-star long snapper by Kohl’s Kicking. He is a two-time Ray Guy ProKicker.com Top Prospect award winner for long snappers.
Meanwhile, the Racer roster also includes redshirt freshman quarterback Joby Jaggers.
Jaggers finished his career at Caldwell County fourth on the school’s all-time passing list with 5,491 yards. He is tied for third in touchdown passes with 62.
Jaggers was 18-7 in two seasons as the Tigers’ starting quarterback.
Jaggers set a school record with a 97-yard touchdown pass to Travis Newsom in Caldwell’s win at Fort Campbell in 2018. However, he also had a 99-yard touchdown pass to Oliver Parker, but that came during a preseason scrimmage against Butler County.
Meanwhile, Parker has also joined the Racer football program but is not eligible to play for Murray State because this is technically still the “2020” season. Parker, who transferred from Western Kentucky, played in one game for the Hilltoppers last fall, making him ineligible to play this spring at Murray.
At Caldwell, Parker is fifth on the career receiving yardage list with 1,829 yards. He is 10th on the all-time receptions list with 106. Parker had 18 touchdown catches with the Tigers.
Head coach Dean Hood is beginning his first season at Murray State.
The 96th season of Racer football is a conference-only schedule of seven OVC games with four of them happening at home in Roy Stewart Stadium where MSU will be playing its 48th season of collegiate football.
The member institutions of the OVC have designated football games will be played on Sunday afternoons, except for Easter, when the league play games on the day before.
This will be the 73rd season for the OVC after it was formed in 1948. Murray State was one of the founding members of the league along with Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Morehead State, Louisville and Evansville.
