Former Hopkinsville High School standout Don Parker is slated to be in the starting lineup when the Murray State Racers open the football season this weekend.
MSU kicks off the “2020” campaign this Sunday, Feb. 21, with a trip to Southeast Missouri. Kickoff time in Cape Girardeau is 2 p.m.
The Racers will play their home opener on Feb. 28 against UT Martin.
Parker, a 6-foot-1 senior, has started 18 games over the past three seasons for the Racers. He has made 43 tackles each of the past two seasons.
Parker is listed as the starter this week at free safety on Murray State’s two-deep chart.
At Hopkinsville, Parker twice received Courier-Journal All-State honorable mention.
The 96th season of Racer football is a conference-only schedule of seven OVC games with four of them happening at home in Roy Stewart Stadium where MSU will be playing its 48th season of collegiate football.
The member institutions of the OVC have designated football games will be played on Sunday afternoons, except for Easter, when the league plays games the day before.
This will be the 73rd season for the OVC after it was formed in 1948. Murray State was one of the founding members of the league along with Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Morehead State, Louisville and Evansville.
