As if dealing with COVID-19 issues were not enough this season, now the weather has stepped in and said “my turn.” Very little action over the past several days means no movement in this week’s YSE 2nd Region Boys’ Basketball “Super 7.” It still appears that several teams have legitimate shots at cutting down the nets when things are all said and done in the 2021 regional tournament. That all said, Lyon County remains at the top of the list for the time being.

– Lyon County (14-2) – A tough week for the Lyons. They make the trip to Richmond, only to see the All A Classic canceled. Before they left town, they dropped a tough game to Walton-Verona after leading at halftime. How this team responds to a little adversity is key now.

– Webster County (14-3) – The Trojans cruised past Whitesville Trinity and still look to be cruising along at this point. A big game ahead when they get to tangle with district rival Henderson County. This team is not going to be fun to play in the postseason

– University Heights (4-6) – The Blazers have won three of their last four, with two of those wins being impressive wins over Madisonville-North Hopkins and Marshall County. Record aside, they appear to be a strong regional contender.

– Madisonville-North Hopkins (5-3) – The Maroons have not seen the court since February 6. They had earlier wins against Warren Central and UHA, but lost to the Blazers in the return match and were handled by Muhlenberg County.

– Hopkinsville (2-2) – The Tigers have not played a game since January 26. Hard to gauge what kind of effect that has on a team as we head into the final weeks of the season.

– Henderson County (6-7) – The northern Colonels picked up a nice win over Bosse. They are scheduled for a Thursday night game with Webster County, but Mother Nature may end up being the winner of that one.

– Union County (9-6) – Weather knocked the Braves out of taking the court over the past several days. A game with UHA, which is set for Friday, would be a good test, should it be able to take place.
