It turns out that the All A Classic will crown boys’ and girls’ basketball champions in 2021 after all. After initially canceling the event due to this week’s winter weather, All A officials reversed their decision Thursday afternoon and announced plans to proceed with the tournament in a sectional format.
Under the sectional format, one winner out of Regions 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16, will advance to Richmond for the semifinals and finals, which are now set to be played in McBrayer Arena on March 5-6.
Under the new tournament layout, the Lyon County Lyons will host the Murray Tigers in the opening round of the boys’ tournament. In the other sectional game, Owensboro Catholic will take on Clinton County. The winner of the Owensboro Catholic-Clinton County game would then host the winner of the Lyon County-Murray game for the chance to advance on to Richmond for the semifinal round.
On the girls’ side, Crittenden County will host Murray in a first-round matchup. The winner of that contest will host the winner of the game between Hancock County and Metcalfe County for the chance to make the trip to Richmond.
Dates and times for the games are to be announced.
This will mark the second delay in the 2021 All A Classic. The event was initially postponed to February due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This week’s winter storms led to the initial cancellation of the tournament, just hours before it had been slated to get underway.
