As they prepare to kick off their appearance in the 2021 All A Classic Monday evening, the Lyon County Lyons used a monster first half from Travis Perry to springboard them past Daviess County Saturday in the Independence Bank Classic at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Perry scored 24 of his game-high 36 points in the first half as the Lyons took down the Panthers 76-66.

Perry scored 13 points in the opening quarter, as the Lyons took the early 19-17 lead.

Thanks to the play of senior Camron Johnson, Daviess County was able to hang right with the Lyons during the second quarter. Johnson, who knocked down two threes in the first quarter, hit three more in the second, as the Panthers were down only 39-35 at the half.

The game stayed tight as the teams returned to the court in the second half. Daviess County was able to limit Perry to just four points in the quarter, as Daviess County outscored the Lyons 15-14, and the game headed into the final quarter with Lyon County holding the 53-50 lead.

With Perry and Jackson Shoulders taking the lead, the Lyons were finally able to get some control of the game as the final quarter got underway. Lyon County started the final eight minutes with a 6-1 spurt to go up 59-50, and Daviess County was never able to seriously threaten for the rest of the game, as Lyon County took home the ten-point win.

Lyon County’s Travis Perry led all scorers with 36 points. Jackson Shoulders added 13, while Jack Reddick also reached double figures with 11.

Daviess County was paced by Cole Burch with 24 points. Camron Johnson, who knocked down five first half three-pointers, finished the game with 20.

Lyon County moves to 16-2 and will host Murray Monday night in an opening-round game of the rescheduled All A Classic state tournament.

Daviess County drops to 4-8. The Panthers travel to Logan County on Tuesday.
