After missing a stretch of four games in late January, it appears Lyon County’s Rose Smith is hitting her stride at just the right time for the Lady Lyons. Smith connected for 20 points, 16 of them coming in the first half, as Lyon County rolled to a 73-38 win at University Heights Academy Saturday night.
The win was the 6th in a row for the Lady Lyons and their 8th in their last nine games.
Lyon County never trailed in the game and the game was tied only once, that coming at 2-2. The Lady Lyons opened the game with a 13-2 run and never looked back. The lead would grow to 26-8 by the end of the opening quarter.
Keyed by the efforts of Alecia Davis, UHA made a run early in the second quarter to try and get back in the game. The Lady Blazers started the quarter on an 11-4 spurt to cut the gap to 30-19. However, the Lady Lyons effectively settled the issue by closing out the half on a 13-2 run to go up 43-21 going into the break.
Calista Collins and Rose Smith were a devasting combination for the Lady Lyons in the opening half, combining to score 25 points. Davis and Amaryia Bass had 18 for the Lady Blazers to keep them within shouting distance.
The final knockout blow was delivered when Lyon County opened the second half with a 10-2 run to move the lead out to 30 points. The lead would stand at 56-28 heading into the final quarter. From there, the Lady Lyons were able to cruise on out for the 35 point win.
Rose Smith topped all scorers in the game with 20 points. Calista Collins added 17 points and dominated on the glass with 22 rebounds.
Alecia Davis was UHA’s leading scorer with 19 points. Amaryia Bass also reached double figures with 10.
Lyon County moves to 11-4 and will play at Crittenden County Tuesday night.
UHA falls to 1-8 and will host Madisonville-North Hopkins Monday night.
