It has been a solid start to the 2021 college baseball season for a former University Heights Academy Blazers. Mississippi State sophomore Drew McGowan has seen action in all three games for the Bulldogs, who have opened with a 2-1 start.
After three games, McGowan is 2-7 at the plate for a .286 batting average. Both of his hits came in the Bulldogs win over Texas, in which he started the game in left field. McGowan also drove in a run in State’s win.
After seeing limited action in Mississippi State’s loss to Texas Christian, McGowan came in off the bench to get a walk and scored a pair of runs in the Bulldog’s win over Texas Tech.
Defensively, McGowan has two putouts and has a fielding percentage of 1.000 three games into the season.
McGowan has been splitting time in left field with junior Brad Cumbest.
During the COVID-19 abbreviated season in 2020, McGowan appeared in eight games with four starts in right field. He had one hit in ten at-bats during the shortened season, and had a fielding percentage of 1.000 with seven putouts.
