Freshman Leia Trinh scored 18 points in the second half as the Greenwood Lady Gators pulled away to a 62-52 win over the Christian County Lady Colonels Tuesday night in Bowling Green. The loss was the second in as many nights for the Lady Colonels.
The game was tight in the early going. The two teams battled to a 15-15 tie in the opening eight minutes of the game. Mikayah Killebrew and 7th grader Anaysia Bagwell combined to score all 15 of the Lady Colonel’s points.
Greenwood’s defense slowed the Lady Colonels down just enough in the second quarter to allow the Lady Gators to move to the front. Greenwood’s Kayla Grant connected for nine points in the quarter to help move the Lady Gators out to a 30-26 halftime lead.
Leia Trinh then came out in the second half and took things over for Greenwood. Trinh scored 11 points in the third quarter as Greenwood extended the lead to 46-38.
The Lady Gators were then able to hold off the Lady Colonels in the 4th quarter with some timely free throw shooting. Leading that effort was Jacqueline Jackson, who knocked down 8 of 10 free throws over the final eight minutes of the game to help secure the win.
Christian County was led by Mikayah Killebrew, who finished the game with 19 points. Anaysia Bagwell added 16 points for the Lady Colonels.
Greenwood’s Leia Trinh ended the night with 23 points. Jacqueline Jackson added 20 for the victorious Lady Gators.
The loss drops the Lady Colonels to 5-5 on the season.
