Lady Wildcats Return from Layoff to Down Livingston Central

After 16 days between games due to the winter weather, Trigg County returned to the hardwood and pounded the paint for a 48-31 win over Livingston Central Tuesday in Smithland.

The Lady Wildcats looked sharp early, jumping out to an 8-1 lead, but the Lady Cardinals answered with nine straight in the first quarter. Trigg County turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter and did a better job of attacking the basket to outscore Livingston Central 19-8 and take a 27-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Trigg county extended its lead to 38-24 in the third quarter and led by as many as 18 points in the fourth.

Adri Phillips led Trigg County with 16 points, scoring half of her points in the second quarter.  Marleigh Reynolds added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Wildcats who shot 35-percent from the field.

Lauren Wring led Livingston Central with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Livingston shot just 23-percent from the field in the contest.

Trigg County is now six straight games over Livingston Central for the first time since 1992-94.

While the district contest does not count toward postseason seeding, Trigg County did improve to 2-2 in district play and 8-7 overall.

The Lady Wildcats will return to action Thursday at McCracken County. The game was originally scheduled for next Tuesday at Trigg County but had to be moved due to some district schedule reshuffling.
