Trigg County beat Livingston Central for the second this time week, but Friday’s path to victory was very different than Tuesday’s win.  The Wildcats scored 30 points in the paint and 19 second-chance points to beat the Cardinals 71-58 at Wildcat Gym.

The Wildcats got a combined 21 points and 16 rebounds from Khyran Vaughn and Kendric Adams as the Wildcats attacked the rim more Friday.  Trigg hit 15 three-pointers in Tuesday’s nine-point win over the Cardinals.

The first half was a close affair with neither team leading by more than five points.  Adams and De’Von Ladd hit 3-pointers in the final two minutes of the half to give the Wildcats a 34-30 lead at intermission.

Max Downey scored five of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter as Livingston tied the game at 44 with 3:59 left.  Trigg answered with a game-deciding 13-1 run sparked by seven points from Jhaden Vaughn.

Livingston got as close as nine points in the fourth quarter, but Trigg was able to push the lead out to as many as 19 points before settling for the 13-point win.

Jhaden Vaughn finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while his older brother Khyran came off the bench to grab seven boards and score 12 points, including his second career 3-pointer.

Ladd, who scored 39 points against Livingston Tuesday, added 16 points and four steals.

After hitting 15 three-pointers Tuesday against the Cardinals, the Wildcats hit 8 of 27 Friday.

In addition to Downey’s 24 points, Tyler Calendar had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
