If you have not had a chance to see North Laurel sophomore Reed Sheppard play, you have a chance to see him play Saturday afternoon on The CW Lexington when the Jaguars play at Lexington Catholic at 2 p.m.

“We are positively carrying the game on the CW Lexington,” said Jeff Anderson, WKYT-TV vice-president, and general manager. “We are not anticipating that moving no matter what happens with the Kentucky game (against South Carolina Saturday). Even if we have the UK CBS game (on WKYT-TV), and I hope we do because that would be pretty awesome, this game will be at 2 on CW Lexington.”

Anderson said this would be the “debut of airing” games on CW Lexington. They have been having high school games on WKYT.com in congestion with PrepSpin.

“We have done two games as a test and things went great,” Anderson said. “We are trying to get to where we could do a game of the week each Saturday.”

PrepSpin founder William Warfield says he hopes to have Dave Baker and Julie Muntz calling the North Laurel-Lexington Catholic game. If Baker has a conflict with UK’s game — he does pregame on the UK Radio Network — then Warfield says he could turn to Brian Millam or Jack Haines for the play-by-play.

“We will simulcast the game to the CW and you can also go to PrepSpin.com or WKYT.com to see the live stream of the game,” Warfield said.

The game matches two of the state’s best teams. North Laurel is 18-0 and has scored 89 or more points in 13 games. Lexington Catholic is 17-0.

Reed Sheppard, the son of former UK standouts Stacey Reed and Jeff Sheppard, is a statewide sensation. He’s averaging 33.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season and is shooting 55 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range, and 87.3 percent at the foul line.

In his career, he has already scored 1,804 points and grabbed 436 rebounds. He’s made 362 of 442 free throws, an 82 percent mark. He’s also made 124 3-pointers in 85 career games.

Lexington Catholic counters with Bellarmine commit Ben Johnson, a 6-3 guard who is Lexington Catholic’s all-time leading scorer with 2,145 points. He ranks eighth in all-time scoring in Lexington.

Johnson is averaging 27.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season and shooting 56 percent from the field, 47 percent from 3-point range, and 82.4 percent at the foul line.

Warfield is looking forward to the game and showing fans just what PrepSpin can deliver. His company recently produced the Tennessee at Kentucky women’s game for ESPN.

“ESPN loved it and so did UK from what we can tell,” Warfield said.

PrepSpin could be involved in streaming games from the upcoming district or regional tournaments — and maybe even some more University of Kentucky athletic events.
