Less than a week ago, Noah Dumas hit a jumper in the lane in the final seconds of overtime to lead McCracken County past University Heights in Blazer Gym. Monday night, it happened again, this time on the Mustangs’ home floor.

This time it was Dumas penetrating into the lane and dishing off to sophomore Jack McCune, who laid it in coming off the right-hand side of the line with four seconds to go to give McCracken County a 59-57 win over University Heights Academy. Back on Tuesday, the Mustangs rode out of Hopkinsville with a 64-62 win over the Blazers.

Much like the first meeting between the two, the game was tightly contested from the very beginning. The Blazers were playing contest without senior guard William Bryan, who was on a college visit.

The Blazers and the Mustangs battled to a draw in the opening quarter, which ended with the two teams tied at 16-16.

McCracken County appeared to gain themselves some breathing room in the second. The Mustang defense limited the Blazers to just seven points as McCracken County inched out to a 29-23 lead at the break.

The third quarter saw a reverse of the second. UHA’s defense limited the Mustangs to 11 points, while D.J. Quarles and K.J. Crump combined to score all 17 of the Blazer points in the quarter, as UHA battled back to tie the game at 40-40.

Much like the game last week, the Blazers would find themselves with a narrow lead late in the game, and once again, McCracken County would find a way to tie and then ultimately win the game in the waning seconds.

The Blazers were paced by D.J. Quarles with 21 points, including five made three-pointers. K.J. Crump added 18 for University Heights.

Ian McCune led the Mustangs with 21. Ian Hart chipped in with 18 points.

The Blazers drop to 7-8 for the year, while McCracken County ups their record to 16-6.
