Christian County’s wrestling team competed in its first non-duals match of the season Saturday at the Steven Johnston Memorial Classic at Paducah Tilghman with every wrestler winning at least one match.
JaRi Campbell won the 106-pound class. He defeated four of his five opponents by fall, including a semifinal win over Paducah Tilghman’s Jayven Williams. In the championship match, Campbell beat Taylor County’s Jacob McDonald by fall.
J.T. Adams won the 195-pound class with a pin of Paducah Tilghman’s Jimmy Mooney in the championship match to cap his 4-0 day on the mat. Adams entered the weekend as the No. 7 wrestler in the 195-pound class.
TyDarius Kelly, the state’s No. 1 wrestler in the heavyweight class, also posted a 4-0 mark and won the 285-pound class. All four of his wins were by fall, including the championship match over Ohio County’s Andrew Pottle in 1:55.
A.J. Harvey lost in the championship match of the 220-pound class to Paducah Tilghman’s Uriah Virzi by fall after winning his earlier three matches.
Austin Grant-Hall, the No.1 wrestler in the 138-pound class, finished second with all five of his matches decided on points. He decisioned Paducah Tilghman’s Jack James 10-6 in the fourth match before falling to North Hardin’s Devon Herron 6-1 in the fifth round. Herron is the No. 2 wrestler in the 145-pound class.
Mason Kellett took second place in the 145-pound class. He fell to Paducah Tilghman’s Malachi Rider 9-2 in the championship match.
Gage Fowler went 2-2 on the day in the 126-pound class. He won two matches by fall but was dropped into the consolation round with a 9-7 sudden death loss to Paducah Tilghman’s Jayden Frazier.
Jacob Newby went 2-2 in the 160-pound class picking up wins by fall over Calloway County’s Patrick Powers and Central Hardin’s Noah Payton.
Also posting a 2-2 record Saturday was Omarion Wimberly in the 182-pound class. He defeated Calloway County’s Nick Watters and Central Hardin’s McKay Payton by fall.
Landon Brumfield went 1-2 on the day in the 152-pound class with his win coming over Taylor County’s Trace Higdon.
Zach Cornett picked up a 7-4 win over North Hardin’s Conner Madison in the 132-pound class.
