Lady Storm Rumbles Past University Heights

The Hopkins Central Lady Storm used a strong defensive effort at the start of the game to set the tone as they rolled past the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers 75-40 Tuesday night in Mortons Gap. The win was the third straight for the Lady Storm.

The Lady Storm defense limited the Lady Blazers to just two field goals in the opening quarter as they jumped out to a 20-6 lead. Hopkins Central started hot from behind the 3-point line, knocking down four threes in the first eight minutes.

Things did not get much better for the Lady Blazers in the second quarter. Central’s defense held UHA to three field goals in the second, all coming from Amaryia Bass, as the Lady Storm were able to push the lead out to 35-15 at the half.

The UHA offense found a little rhythm in the third quarter, as the Lady Blazers were able to ring up sixteen points. Still, the Lady Storm, behind the play of Keli Reynolds, were able to push the lead out to 56-31 at the quarter’s end.

The Hopkins Central defense then clamped down again in the 4th quarter, holding UHA to three field goals and three made free throws, as the Lady Storm pulled on out to the final 35 point margin.

Amaryia Bass topped the scoring column for the Lady Blazers with 11 points. Alecia Davis also hit double figures with ten.

Keli Reynolds led the way for Hopkins Central, finishing with 18 points. Her sister Keri added 12 points for the Lady Storm.

UHA now falls to 1-13, while Hopkins Central ups its record to 8-7.
