
In a Thursday night matchup between two teams that appear to be heading in different directions, the Lyon County boys’ basketball team picked up its fourth-straight victory and prolonged Webster County’s six-game slide with a 76-68 win in Dixon.
The Lyons now sit at 20-3 overall with a trip to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Saturday to wrap up a four-game stretch on the road. Webster County will look to right the ship when they visit Trigg County on Saturday in Cadiz.
Lyon County’s Travis Perry was doing his thing with a pair of 3-pointers and 11 points in the first quarter. Jackson Shoulders chipped in 5, and the Lyons led 19-10 after one.
Webster County leading scorer Destin Allen scored 5 in the second, but Shoulders carried the scoring load with 8 more to help the Lyons take a 34-24 advantage into the break.
Allen and Perry dueled in the third, with the Lyon County freshman posting 11 to Allen’s 8. Hunter McNaughton drilled two 3-pointers and the Trojans outscored the Lyons 25-21 to pull to within 6.
The Trojans hit eleven 3-pointers by six different players, including three in the fourth quarter. Allen did his part with 11 more points, but Lyon’s Brady Shoulders answered with 5 points and Perry went 6/7 at the free-throw line to seal the win.
Perry’s 30 led four Lyons in double figures, with Jackson Shoulders posting 18, Brady Shoulders 11, and Gunnar Bingham 10.
Allen’s 24 led the Trojans, Ryan Roland finished with 14, and McNaughton scored 13.
