Union County Extends Trigg’s Losing Streak to Three Games

3-4-ahart

Trigg County has its first three-game losing streak of the season following a 58-48 loss at Union County Thursday. It’s Trigg’s second loss to the Braves in the past week.

Trigg County was playing without its leading scorer, De’Von Ladd, who missed the game due to sickness. While his 18 points per game were missed, his ability to handle Union County’s pressure defense was missed even more.

The Wildcats turned the ball over 25 times in the contest which led directly to 22 Union County points.

Trigg County had the early lead, at 7-5. Union County then countered with a game-deciding 15-2 run. The Braves led by 11 points at halftime thanks to the Wildcats missing six of eight shots in the quarter.  Trigg also had 10 turnovers in the quarter that led to 11 Brave points.

Trigg was able to cut the deficit to 32-27 on a Jhaden Vaughn three-point play with 4:22 left in the third quarter.

However, Union County was able to push it back out to a 40-29 advantage late in the quarter.

Every time the Wildcats would get the deficit in the single digits, the turnover bug usually followed. The Wildcats were able to cut it to five one more time in the fourth quarter on a Khyran Vaughn three-point play with 5:22 left.  Again, Union County answered with a run to push the lead back to 14 points.

Freshman Jhaden Vaughn had his third double-double in his last four games with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Khyran Vaughn added 19 points and 14 rebounds. However, there was no balance in the Wildcats scoring column.

Izaiah Manuel led Union County with 17 points. The Braves, who hit 11 three-pointers in their win at Trigg County last week, only hit one 3-pointer Thursday. However, they were able to score 30 points in the paint Thursday.

Trigg County will look to snap its season-long three-game losing streak Saturday when they welcome in another six district team, Webster County.
