Western Kentucky commit Macey Blevins now has nine Wayne County school records.

Western Kentucky signee Macey Blevins of Wayne County just missed a triple-double against Casey County earlier this week when she had 37 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, three blocks, and one steal in her team’s 13th win in 15 games. Blevins did set two more school records in the win even if she did miss her triple-double. She now has 92 blocked shots, a carer record, and she went 7-for-8 from 3-point range — a single-game record.

Blevins now has nine school record — most career field goals, career points, single-game points, career blocks, career free throws made, career 3-pointers made, single-game assists, single-game blocks, and single-game 3-pointers made.

She is averaging 17.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this year while shooting 44.1 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from 3, and 65.4 percent at the foul line. Career-wise, the Wayne guard now has 2,440 points along with 920 rebounds, 569 assists, 238 steals, and 92 blocks.

Remember she missed seven games last year with a broken hand and her team has played fewer games than most teams this year due to COVID protocols.

Wayne is one of the top teams in the 12th Region and figures to battle Southwestern, Danville, Mercer County, and Rockcastle County for the regional crown.

Here’s part of what I really like about Wayne. The Cardinals have seven players averaging about five or more points per game, including three in double figures. They have six players shooting 43 percent or better from the field. They shoot 36 percent as a team from 3-point range and have four players with 18 or more 3’s in 15 games. Wayne also shoots almost 70 percent as a team at the foul line and that’s big in postseason play.

One other plus — the players have been together since second grade. No one has transferred in or left the program as it’s obvious they have terrific team chemistry.

“Just hometown girls who have worked hard to be basketball players,” one Wayne fan told me.

And one very special player in Blevins to lead the team.
