With just over a week left in the regular season, Trigg County is finding it is a tough time for its offense to go AWOL.  The Lady Wildcats were held under 50 points for a seventh straight game Friday as they fell to Muhlenberg County 45-35 in Greenville.

Trigg was originally scheduled to play Hopkins County Central Friday but lost that contest due to the Lady Storm entering COVID protocol Thursday. Friday’s game with Muhlenberg County was the first between the schools.

Muhlenberg County led wire-to-wire as Trigg County’s cold shooting put them in an early hole.  The Lady Mustangs outscored Trigg 17-7 in the second quarter to build a 24-13 halftime lead.

The Lady Wildcats briefly got their deficit into single digits in the third quarter at 28-20, but Sarah Cate-Boggess drained a 3-pointer to push the lead back out to 11 points.  The Lady Mustangs, who entered the game shooting 22-percent from 3-point range for the season, hit 6 of 15 against Trigg.  Boggess had half of those and finished with a game-high 18 points.

Buckets by Adri Phillips and Marleigh Reynolds got Trigg to within 40-35 with 2:31 left, but the Lady Wildcats wouldn’t score again.  Reynolds led Trigg with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Phillips scored 10 points.

Trigg County hit just 29-percent of its shots and was 2 of 18 behind the arc.  They are 5 of 45 from 3-point range in their last two games and have struggled to score over the past seven games, seeing their offense drop from 50 points a game to 46. They are 1-6 in that span.

Trigg County will play at Logan County Tuesday.  A game scheduled with Butler County Saturday has been canceled.
