A late-game rally fell just short for the Lyon County Lady Lyons Friday night in Dixon. After trailing by as many as 14 points late in the third quarter and by ten points at the beginning of the final quarter, Lyon County would get close but would eventually fall to the Webster County Lady Trojans 61-59.
The win ends a two-game losing streak for the Lady Trojans, who were upended by district rival Union County Thursday night. Webster County was again without its top two leading scorers, Brooklyn Clark and Raigan Price, who are both battling injuries.
The Lady Lyons got strong starts from Rose Smith and Hadlie Butler as they took the 12-10 lead after the opening quarter.
Webster County’s offense got things cranked up in the second quarter. Mary Rakestraw and Adeline McDyer combined to score 13 points for the Lady Trojans as they got to the front and took a 28-23 lead into the break.
McDyer and Hannah Yates kept the offense rolling for the Lady Trojans in the third quarter as Webster County pushed the lead out to double digits. The Lady Trojans would lead by as many as 14 points at 45-31 late in the quarter before taking a 47-37 lead into the final eight minutes.
Calista Collins and Rose Smith would lead the charge for Lyon County as the Lady Lyons made a last-ditch effort to get back in the game in the fourth quarter. Twice the Lady Lyons would get within two points, but could never get back to the front, as Webster County held on tight for the 61-59 win.
Calista Collins had a stellar night for the Lady Lyons, finishing with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Rose Smith chipped in with 14 points for Lyon County.
The Lady Trojans were led by Adeline McDyer with 15. Mary Rakestraw and Hannah Yates added 11 points apiece.
Lyon County falls to 14-6 for the year, while Webster County improves to 9-10.
