After being canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans are rolling forward for the 2021 edition of the Best of the West 7-on-7 football tournament. Event organizers announced the first six teams that will be participating Monday.
Those teams included: Hopkinsville, Bowling Green, South Laurel, Owensboro Catholic, Pearl Cohn, and East Nashville.
Hopkinsville finished the 2020 season at 7-3, losing to eventual Class 4A champion Boyle County in the semifinal round of the playoffs.
Bowling Green went 10-2 in 2020, winning the Class 5A championship by defeating Owensboro 17-7.
South Laurel had their struggles during the COVID shortened 2020 season. The Cardinals missed the Class 5A playoffs, finishing the year at 0-8.
Owensboro Catholic ended the 2020 season at 7-4. The Aces fell to Murray 28-7 in the regional championship game of the Class 2A playoffs.
Pearl Cohn went 9-1 during the 2020 season. The Firebirds would fall 27-13 to top ranked Milan in the Tennessee Class 3A playoffs.
East Nashville finished the 2020 season with a record of 5-3. The Eagles fell to Pearl Cohn 41-0 in the second round of the Tennessee Class 3A playoffs.
This year’s Best of the West Passing Tournament is set for July 16-17.
