It was the final regular-season home game for three Lyon County seniors, but junior Rose Smith tried to steal the show Tuesday night.

Smith scored 18 of her game-high 26 points in the first half to help the Lady Lyons turn away Christian Fellowship School 64-43 at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.

But senior Calista Collins also got into the act. Collins has become a double-double machine for Lyon and produced 12 points and 21 rebounds in the win over CFS.

More importantly, Collins grabbed her 1,000th career rebound off the offensive glass in the third quarter before Lyon called timeout with 1:02 left in the period to recognize her.

By that time, Lyon County had the game well in hand, building a 51-34 lead through three quarters.

The contest was back and forth early before the Lady Lyons edged ahead 18-11 after 8 minutes.

Lyon (16-7) scored the first eight points of the second quarter to stretch the margin to 15 at 26-11.

CFS (12-12) crept back to within eight at 32-24 before a bucket just ahead of the horn by Smith extended the margin back to double figures at halftime, 34-24.

The Lady Lyons’ lead was never challenged in the second half.

The CFS Lady Eagles got 20 points from Gracie Howard while Lillian Burnett had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Lyon’s girls will go for their 17th victory on Thursday when they visit Paducah Tilghman (7-7).

The Lady Lyons will then face Trigg County next Tuesday in the 5th District semifinals in Cadiz.
