Four individual champions helped Christian County place third in the team standings at the 1st Region Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Union County.
Gage Fowler at 126 pounds, Austin Grant-Hall at 138, J.T. Adams at 195 and TyDarius Kelly at heavyweight all captured regional titles.
Fowler breezed through his first two matches, winning both by pin in less than a minute. He then decisioned Jayden Frazier of Paducah Tilghman 13-8 in the finals.
At 138, Grant-Hall pinned his first opponent in 1:09, then claimed a 16-6 decision in the semifinals. He then pinned Keaton Elliott of Calloway County with just 11 seconds left in the championship match.
Adams needed just two wins to claim the 195-pound weight class. He won by a 15-6 decision in the semifinals, then pinned Paxton Ervin of Union County in the finals in 3:28.
At heavyweight, Kelly won his first match by pin in just 33 seconds, then recorded a pin in 3:14 in the semifinals. Against Andrew Pottle of Ohio County in the finals, Kelly claimed an 11-7 decision.
A pair of Colonels claimed runner-up finishes.
JaRi Campbell was second at 106. He won his first two matches with quick pins in 31 and 36 seconds. However, Campbell was pinned by Union County’s Jordyn Ramey in 1:07 in the finals.
Mason Kellett placed second at 145. He won his first match by pin in 1:37 then claimed an 18-5 decision in the semifinals. Kellett was pinned by Paducah Tilghman’s Malachi Rider in the championship match in 4:00.
Jacob Newby took third for the Colonels at 160, pinning Jermaine Poynter of Henderson County in the third-place match in 1:50.
A.J. Harvey was third at 220, pinning Rance Hawkins of Henderson County in the third-place match in 3:15.
Deameion Leavell was fourth at 120, falling to Timothy Nichols of Caldwell County in the third-place match 8-4.
The top four wrestlers in the regional advance to the semi-state tournament next Saturday at Owensboro Apollo. Only the top two at semi-state will get to go to the state tournament this year.
Christian County totaled 183 team points to finish third overall.
Union County won the team title for the 18th straight year with 275 points while Paducah Tilghman was runner-up with 215.
