Heritage Christian Drops 2021 Baseball Opener at Jo Byrns

Hits were tough to come by as Heritage Christian Academy opened its 2021 baseball season with a 5-1 loss at Jo Byrns, Tenn. Tuesday.

Jo Byrns pitcher Taylor Head struck out 12 batters over five innings of work and allowed only a fourth inning single to J.J. Thompson who was later thrown out trying to steal second base.

J Byrns scored single runs in the first three innings and added two more runs in the sixth inning.  The first three runs were scored on two ground outs and a passed ball.

Head added a two-run homer in the sixth inning to round out the Jo Byrns scoring.

HCA scored its lone run in the sixth inning when David Jent walked, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on a Trenton Fowler groundout.

Weston Powell took the pitching loss, allowing one hit and two earned runs in three innings. He struck out two and walked two.

Thompson struck out six in three innings of relief, allowing one hit and two earned runs.

Heritage Christian Academy will open KCAA play Friday at home against North Hardin Christian at David Eddings Field.
