The UHA Lady Blazers welcomed Lyon County to Hopkinsville on Thursday to open the 2021 tennis season, topping the Lady Lyons 3-1 in singles play and winning both doubles matches.
Lady Blazers’ top seed Kate Bennett topped Lyon’s Maddie Russell 6-1, 6-4. In a battle of 2 seeds, UHA’s Mitali Patel won 8-1 over Zoe Board, with 3rd-seeded Hannah Jane Holland taking an 8-1 decision over Lyon’s Anna Yanez. Katie Ladd picked up the Lady Lyons’ only win of the day, topping Rachel Cavanah 8-4.
In doubles play, UHA’s Bennett and Cavanah won 8-0 over Josie Kaminski and Maggie Duff and Patel and Holland knocked off Lyon’s Russell and Wendy Dong 8-4.
