A final inning rally came up just short for the Heritage Christian Warriors Monday afternoon. Trailing 10-5 entering the bottom of the 5th inning, the Warriors scored three runs but could not complete the rally and fell 10-8 to visiting Jo Byrns.
The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jackson Thompson stole third and then scored.
Jo Byrns came back in a big way, plating four runs in the top of the 2nd to take a 4-1 lead. Three of the runs scored on an HCA error.
In the bottom of the inning, the Warriors scored three runs of their own to tie the game at 4-4. The big blow in the inning was an RBI double from Carter Glover. The Warriors also scored a pair of runs on a Jo Byrns error.
The Warriors appeared to have things moving their way in the bottom of the third inning. David Jent scored on a bases loaded walk to give HCA a 5-4 lead.
Jo Byrns again came right back in the top of the 4th, scoring four runs to take an 8-5 lead. Jo Byrns used two doubles, two singles, a walk, a hit batter, and an HCA error to get their runs. They would add two more in the top of the 5th on an error and a hit batter.
The Warriors started their last-ditch rally with a walk, back-to-back singles, and a passed ball with two outs to cut the lead to 10-8. Jackson Thompson came to the plate as the tying run but lined out to right to end the game.
Trenton Hayes and Grant Floyd were each 1-4, with two RBIs. Carter Glover was 1-1, with a double, and RBI, and two runs scored.
On the mound, Jackson Thompson got the start, going three and two-thirds, giving up 8 runs, only four of them earned, on four hits, striking out seven and walking two. Tra Fowler pitched the final inning, giving up two runs, none of them earned, on no hits, striking out none and walking two.
