Treyveon Longmire
It has been almost two years since Kentucky offer Corbin’s Treyveon Longmire a scholarship and Friday he finally gave his verbal commitment to the Wildcats. He made his announcement on Kentucky Sports Radio and joined four-star cornerback Jeremiah Caldwell and three-star cornerback Andre Stewart in UK’s 2022 recruiting class.
Longmire, who has been timed in 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, picked UK over West Virginia, Mississippi, Virginia Tech, and Louisville. He is a four-star recruit and No. 17 athlete nationally by 247Sports.com. He could play either defensive back or wide receiver.
The 6-2, 175-pound Longmire had some impressive offers including Oklahoma, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Purdue, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
Longmire said “for the next three to four years, I will be attending” Kentucky when he made his announcement on KSR. Nothing wrong with setting his goal for playing in the NFL in three years but also knowing a four-year plan is just fine.
“Kentucky, they have touched home with me. They are like family. They keep in touch with me every day. That’s what I was looking for in a college. Kentucky has been the one that stuck out the most with that,” Longmire said during his commitment announcement.
He had 18 tackles last season, caught 21 passes for 280 yards and three scores, and 21 times for 60 yards.
“I’ll play anywhere they need me, honestly,” Longmire said.
He said he has talked with current Wildcat Wan’Dale Robinson, a recent transfer from Nebraska, occasionally about the UK offense. Some see Longmire as potentially play a role as Lynn Bowden did at receiver for UK and Robinson likely will this year. However, most college coaches view Longmire as more of a lockdown cornerback with his size and speed.
Longmire is the first of the in-state players Kentucky is targeting to commit. Frederick Douglass receiver Dane Key will announce his top 10 schools on Sunday. Owensboro quarterback Gavin Wimsatt and Johnson Central offensive line Grant Bingham also are targets for recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow.
