Caldwell Softball Drops Opener at Henderson 8-3

After falling behind 4-0, Caldwell County battled back to within 4-3 in the sixth inning at Henderson County on Monday.

However, the host Lady Colonels scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning and went on to defeat the Lady Tigers 8-3 in season-opening softball action.

A.J. Hollowell was 2-for-4 and scored a run for Caldwell while Allie Felker and Brylee Butts each had doubles and knocked in a run for the Lady Tigers.

Julianna Hibbs was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs for Henderson. Anna Willett was 3-for-3 with a home run.

The Lady Colonels scored three times in the bottom of the first and added another run in the fourth to go up 4-0.

Caldwell scratched back into the game with a single run in the fifth and then two more in the sixth. But the Lady Tigers could never draw even after falling behind early.

Madi Stone was the winning pitcher for Henderson. She allowed one earned run on six base hits while striking out three and walking one.

Ilyssa Stallins suffered the pitching loss for Caldwell. She allowed eight earned runs on 16 hits while striking out two and walking one.

Caldwell’s girls will play at home for the first time on Tuesday, hosting 7th District foe Hopkins County Central at Lady Tiger Field in Princeton.
