Lyon County Opens Baseball Season With District Win

Lyon County scored two runs in each of the first two innings and made it stand up in an 8-4 win over Crittenden County Monday in the baseball season opener for both clubs.

Brody Williams followed a Gunnar Bingham walk with a two-run homer in the first inning to stake the Lyons to a 2-0 lead.

Travis Yancy added a two-run single in the second inning to put the Lyons ahead 4-0.

Jackson Shoulders added a sac fly in the fourth inning to push the Lyon lead to 5-0.

Crittenden got on the board in the fifth inning when Hunter Smith singled and later scored on a Maddox Carlson sac fly.

Braxton Winders added an RBI double in the sixth inning to get Crittenden to within 5-2. Logan Bailey later added an RBI single to make the score 5-3.

The Lyons added some insurance in the home half of the sixth inning when Aidan Rush singled home a run, and Corey Cissell added a two-run double.

Yancy finished with three hits and two RBIs for Lyon County, and Cissell and Christian O’Daniel each had a pair of hits.

Austin Long picked up the win on the mound, allowing three earned runs and four hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out nine and walked four.

Bailey had two of Crittenden County’s six hits and suffered the pitching loss, allowing two earned runs and fanning seven in 4.2 innings.

Lyon County will host Christian County Tuesday while Crittenden County will entertain University Heights Academy Thursday.
