After not having a season in 2020, University Heights and Trigg County got to play baseball for the first time in almost two years Monday afternoon, as they opened the season at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.
UHA used a solid pitching effort from Seth Hancock to lead the way as the Blazers upended the Wildcats 4-3.
Trigg County got on the board in their first at-bat of the season in the bottom of the first. Jay Humphries connected for an RBI single and Trevor Terrell drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
The Blazers got to the lead in the top of the third with an RBI double from Ty Hunt, followed by an RBI single from Eston Glover, and then another RBI single from Ben Stone to make it 3-2.
After three straight singles in the top of the 4th, Luke Welch drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the Blazer lead to 4-2.
Trigg County would get within one run at 4-3 on an Andrew Williamson RBI single in the bottom of the 6th.
Trigg County got the tying run aboard in the bottom of the 7th with a leadoff error from the Blazers. However, Ian Tyler struck out the next two batters, and Trigg County’s Joseph Peca was caught stealing during the final at-bat, as UHA held on for the one-run win to open the season.
Seth Hancock, Ty Hunt, and Eston Glover all had two hits in the game for the Blazers. Hunt, Glover, Luke Welch, and Ben Stone had RBIs.
Andrew Williamson was 3-3 on the day for Trigg County, with a run scored and an RBI. Joseph Peca ended up 3-4.
