Crittenden County Turns Back UHA 12-6

The Crittenden County Rockets took an early lead and made it stand up as they got by University Heights Academy 12-6 Thursday afternoon in Marion. The Rockets scored seven runs over the first two innings to go up 7-0. The Blazers would get as close as 7-5, but a five-run fifth inning would secure the win for the Rockets.

Maddux Carlson put Crittenden County up with a two-run triple in the first innings. The Rockets then took advantage of three UHA errors and a dropped third strike to plate five runs in the bottom of the second.

The Blazers took advantage of a pair of Rocket mistakes in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 7-2. Two more Crittenden County errors in the top of the 4th led to three more runs, as the Blazers cut the lead to 7-5.

Crittenden County would extend the lead back out to 12-5, combining three hits with two walks and two hit batters to score five runs in the bottom of the 5th inning.

The Blazers would add a run on a sacrifice in the 6th, but that would be it as the Rockets took the six-run win.

Both teams had their struggles in the field, combining to commit a total of 11 errors in the game.

UHA scored six runs on three hits, while Crittenden County scored their 12 runs on eight hits.

Seth Hancock was 0-4 for the Blazers but ended up with 3 RBIs. Eston Glover, Luke Welch, and Eli Finch, each had one hit for UHA. Cole Glover was 0-3, scoring two runs and having one RBI.

Luke Welch got the start for the Blazers, going four innings, giving up seven runs, just two of them earned, striking out four while walking two.

With the loss, the Blazers fall to 1-2 on the season.
