Just hours after banging out 16 hits and posting 18 runs in a come-from-behind victory over Ohio County, the Todd County Central softball team found Russellville’s Amiya Collier much more elusive in a 5-0 loss to the Lady Panthers on Saturday.
The Lady Rebels’ first defeat of the season sees them knocked out of the 4th Region All-A tournament to stand at 3-1 overall. Russellville improves to 4-1 and will face the other semifinal winner in the title game.
Collier got the Lady Panthers started with a single to lead off the game, eventually coming home on a single by Reese Croslin. Russellville doubled the lead in the top of the 2nd on an RBI triple by Akiah Bell and added a third run in their next at-bat on a run-scoring double by Madison Penrod.
Haylee Vass pitched through the 5th for the Lady Rebels, yielding the last of 5 runs, 4 earned, on a 2-run double by Brinley Mason. Vass allowed 8 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Abigail McPherson worked the 6th and 7th with no runs, hits, or walks, to go with 3 strikeouts.
Collier cruised to the win, surrendering only 2 hits and a single walk with 13 strikeouts. She was one of six Lady Panthers with a hit each, with Bell, Penrod, and Croslin each driving in a run. Mason had a hit and drove in a pair.
