Haylee Vass drove in 4 runs and the Todd County Central Lady Rebels used a 10-run 4th inning to erase an early deficit on the way to an 18-13 victory over visiting Ohio County on Friday night.
The Lady Rebels move to 3-0 for the first time in over 20 years and return to their home field Saturday morning to host Russellville in the 4th-Region All-A tournament.
Todd Central starting pitcher Jocelyn Mock didn’t make it out of the first, giving way to Shae Wade after yielding 5 runs. Ohio County added 3 runs in the top of the 3rd, including a double that scored 2 by Elli Graves.
Trailing 8-1, the Lady Rebels began to claw their way back in the bottom of the 3rd, turning 5 singles into 4 runs. However, Ohio County seemed to have the answer with 3 runs in their next at-bat, capped by a run-scoring triple by Sidney Hudnall.
The first three Lady Rebels had base hits to start the bottom of the 4th, with Haylee Vass scoring 2 with a triple. Four of the next 5 batters drew walks and Todd Central took its first lead of the night on Samantha Case’s RBI single. Case later came home on an error for the last of the 10-run outburst and a 15-11 Lady Rebel advantage.
The Lady Eagles got 2 back in the top of the 6th and were in position for more, but Abigail McPherson struck out Kara Leach with the bases loaded to end the threat.
Vass put an exclamation point on her big night with an RBI single in the bottom of the 6th and Todd Central added a couple more to pad the lead to 18-13. McPherson capped her three innings of work on the mound with 3 outs in the top of the 7th. She allowed 2 runs on no hits with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks.
Wade worked 3.1 innings before handing off to McPherson, allowing 6 runs, 4 earned, on 6 hits with 3 walks.
Vass finished 3-5 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored to lead the way at the plate, followed by McPherson with a couple of hits and 3 RBI. Wade also drove in 3, while Case had 3 hits and an RBI. Mock and Madelyn Slaughter each had a couple of hits and Slaughter and Abby Williams each drove in a run.
