After trailing most of the game against Daviess County Saturday afternoon, the Christian County Lady Colonels very nearly pulled off a 7th inning comeback against the #11 Lady Panthers, ending the game with the tying run on the basepaths. Karlee Crick doubled home two runs on the game’s final play but was called out for running out of the baseline trying to avoid a tag at third base as Daviess County held on to sneak by the Lady Colonels 6-5 at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.
The play capped off a wild top of the 7th inning, which saw Christian County rally from 6-1 down. Prior to Crick’s double, the Lady Colonels had scored runs on RBI singles from Riley Hancock and Tenley Gilbert to trim the lead to 6-3.
Prior to the top of the 7th, Daviess County’s Raylee Roby had pretty much silenced the Lady Colonels’ bats. Through the first six innings, Roby had given up only one run on three hits, the run coming on an RBI double from Riley Hancock in the top of the third inning.
As they did in their win against Lyon County earlier in the day, the Lady Panthers tallied runs in their first at-bat of the game to take the early lead. Daviess County scored two runs in the first, one in the third, and three more in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.
Karlee Crick continued her hot hitting for the Lady Colonels going 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Riley Hancock finished 2-3 with a double and two RBIs. Pickle Winkler was 1-2 with a pair of runs scored.
Christian County scored their five runs on six hits, while Daviess County scored six runs on nine hits.
In the circle, Gracie Harned went the distance for Christian County, giving up six runs, four of them earned, on 9 hits, striking out two, while walking three.
