The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers have picked up their first All A regional softball win since their All A state tournament season of 2015. The Lady Blazers put up 32 runs in just two at-bats at they rolled past Dawson Springs Monday night 32-12 in a 2 1/2-inning mercy rule game Monday night.
The 32 runs were the most scored by the Lady Blazers since 2002, which is as far as the KHSAA fast pitch records for University Heights go back.
The game, while short on innings, was not short on time. With all of the runs scored, the 2 1/2-innings took just under 2 1/2-hours to play.
After Dawson Springs scored 2 runs in the top of the first, the Lady Blazers plated 14 runs in the bottom of the inning.
Dawson Springs came back with nine runs in the top of the second. UHA then erupted for 18 runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Panthers would score one run in the top of the third, with the game then ending due to the 15-run mercy rule that comes into play after three innings.
Mallory Ladd had a huge game for the Lady Blazers going 4-4 with a double, 4 RBIs and five runs scored. Regan Pollard ended up 3-4 with a double, 3 RBI’s, and four runs scored. Jaila Batey was 2-3 with a double, 3 RBIs, and four runs scored. Bre Daniels finished a perfect 3-3 with 3 RBIs, and three runs scored.
UHA scored their 32 runs on 15 hits while committing just one error. Dawson Springs scored their 12 runs on only one hit. That hit was a single from Alexandria Jones. The Lady Panthers were charged with 5 errors in the field.
Mallory Ladd picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Blazers.
It was a bit dangerous at times to be a batter in the contest. A total of 23 batters were hit by a pitch in the course of the game.
UHA now moves on to the All-A regional semifinals Tuesday evening, where they will take on the Lyon County Lady Lyons. Lyon County advanced when Crittenden County was unable to play Monday night due to COVID protocols.
