Junior Shelby Gettings had game-highs in hits, RBIs, and runs scored to help the Logan County High School softball team snap its five-game losing streak during a 12-2 win Tuesday over visiting Todd County Central.

The Rebels, who won their first three games of the season, committed six errors in defeat and lost for the third time in their last four games. Todd Central actually struck first on freshman Jocelyn Mock’s RBI double in the top of the first inning, but the fun was short-lived, as the Cougars strung together three consecutive RBI singles in the second inning to surge ahead for good.

Samantha Case did manage to keep TCCHS within 4-2 of Logan on a two-out RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, but that’s as close as Todd would get the rest of the way. Logan (5-6) added two more in the bottom half on Gettings’ two-run double to put the game away.

One night after hitting her first home run of the season, Case stayed hot and led the Rebels offensively, finishing 3-for-3 with the aforementioned RBI out of the leadoff spot. Mock added two hits and the RBI, while senior Maddie Williams was 1-for-1 with a run scored and a walk.

Abigail McPherson (2-1) pitched all five innings and struck out five, but allowed 14 hits and 12 runs (eight earned) in her first loss of 2021. Shayla Johnson (2-4) was the winner in the circle for the Cougars, scattering seven hits and allowing two runs in the five-inning complete game.

Todd County Central (4-3) will return home for the first time in 12 days, taking on Hopkinsville on April 15. The Rebels play six of their next seven games in Elkton, including a rematch with Jo Byrns (TN) to close out the homestand.
