Off to their best start since a 9-0 mark in 2011, the Hopkinsville Tigers barely broke a sweat on Tuesday in a 15-2 road win over Hopkins County Central. The Tigers moved to 7-0 while the Storm remain winless in their first seven attempts.
The game was tied at 1-1 after the first inning before the Tigers added 2 more runs in the 2nd. Hoptown blew it open with a 6-run 3rd, including an RBI single by Landon Cook, four bases-loaded walks, and a hit by pitch.
The Tigers turned a hit by pitch and 5 walks into 4 more runs in the top of the 4th to lead 13-2. Cook collected his second run-scoring single in the 5th and another bases-loaded walk provided the final run.
Tim Cansler got the start for the Tigers, working two innings and allowing a single earned run on one hit with 2 walks and a pair of strikeouts. Zach Moss took over from there, yielding an earned run with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts.
Landon Snyder had 3 of the Tigers’ 7 hits. Chaudoin drove in 3 runs and Ryan Myers, Kaden West, Logan Durst, Blake Balthrop, and Charles Rutland each had an RBI.
Loren McKinney took the loss on the mound for the Storm, lasting 2.2 innings and giving up 9 runs, 7 earned, on 4 hits with a strikeout. Jadon Brasher got the last out of the 3rd and pitched the 4th, surrendering 6 earned runs on 3 hits. The two combined to issue 14 walks.
Hopkinsville will look to move to 2-0 in 8th-District play when they host Christian County on Thursday. Hopkins Central also returns to the field on Thursday at McLean County.
