Trigg County doubled up visiting Marshall County in hits on Tuesday night in Cadiz, but 8 runs over the final two frames propelled the Marshals to an 8-7 win over the Wildcats. Trigg sees a 2-game win streak snapped to slip to 2-3, while the Marshals remain undefeated at 4-0.
The Wildcats jumped in front on an RBI single by Tyler Ahart in the bottom of the 1st and doubled the lead in the 2nd. Trigg seemed to take control with 3 more runs in the 5th, including RBI singles by Trevor Terrell and Greyson Grissom.
Trigg starting pitcher Joseph Peca scattered 3 hits and held the Marshals scoreless over the first 5 innings, but got in trouble in the 6th after Evan Oakley tripled to bring in a run. Griffin Darnall followed with an RBI single and Marshall County pulled to within 2 at 5-3 after a bases-loaded walk.
Andrew Williamson took the mound for Trigg to start the 7th and Parker Gibbs opened with a triple for the Marshals. Oakley drove him in with a single and 2 runs came in on a Wildcat error to give Marshall County its first lead at 6-5.
Williamson issued 4 walks in the frame, with runs coming in on the last two to give the Marshals an 8-5 advantage ahead of Trigg’s last at-bat.
Peca got the Wildcats started with a lead-off double and came home on a fielder’s choice to trim the margin to 2. After a single by Grissom, Bryce Cunningham drove in a run and put runners on 1st and 2nd. After a flyout by Hunter Reynolds, the Wildcats loaded the bases with a walk but Isaac Peca flew out to right field to end the game.
Peca struck out 9 and walked 8, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits. Clay Hale earned the win for the Marshals with 2.2 innings of work, yielding 5 earned runs on 6 hits with 5 walks and a pair of strikeouts. Cameron Wyatt started and lasted 4.1 innings, surrendering 2 earned runs on 4 hits with 3 walks.
Ahart and Terrell drove in 2 each for the Wildcats, with Grissom, Cunningham, and Reynolds each collecting an RBI. Terrell, Grissom, and Cunningham combined for 6 of Trigg’s 10 hits.
