In his second start of the season, senior pitcher Trey Carr really revved his engine. Carr (1-0) struck out four, walked none, and threw a four-inning no-hitter Thursday to lead the Trigg County High School baseball team to a 16-1 domination of Russellville.
The only Panter baserunner allowed was Nick Bollenbecker, who reached on a two-out error and scored on another in the top of the fourth inning. Other than that, Carr was perfect in the Wildcats’ third win of 2021.
TCHS leadoff hitter Andrew Williamson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four stolen bases, and an RBI, set the tone for the ‘Cats, but it was the bottom of the order that really delivered in the balanced offensive onslaught. The Nos. 5-8 batters for Trigg — Tyler Ahart, Trevor Terrell, Greyson Grissom, and Bryce Cunningham — each had at least a pair of RBIs and combined to go 6-for-7 at the plate.
Nine of the ten Trigg County players who came to bat drove in a run during the lopsided affair, including a game-high three from Cunningham. The Wildcats went up 1-0 on Jay Humphries’ RBI groundout in the first inning and never looked back.
Williamson tripled to lead off the second and scored on Isaac Peca’s RBI groundout to make it 4-0. Terrell delivered one of Trigg’s four doubles — a two-run line drive to left — to give his squad a 6-0 advantage. Ahart’s one-out, two-out double ended the game in the fourth inning, via the 15-run mercy rule.
It was the second time in 11 games that Russellville (1-10) has been no-hit this season. None of the four Panther pitchers lasted longer than 1 1/3 innings. Daylan Roberts (0-4) gave up three earned runs to take the loss.
For Trigg County, Carr pitched the Wildcats’ first no-hitter since Caleb McIntosh in 2013.
The Wildcats (3-3) will wrap up a five-game homestand at 5:30 p.m. on April 16 against regional foe Crittenden County. The Rockets improved to 6-2 on Thursday after defeating Caldwell County in the All “A” 2nd Region Tournament.
