Chaudoin, Hoptown Blank Christian County 7-0

Preston Chaudoin scattered 5 hits over seven shutout innings and Zach Moss had 3 hits to lead the Hoptown Tigers to a 7-0 win over visiting Christian County on Thursday night.

The Tigers win their 8th-straight to start the season and move to 2-0 in 8th-District play while the Colonels slip to 1-8, 1-2 against district opponents.

Christian County’s Elijah Underhill led off the game with a double and struck out the side in the bottom of the first to give the Colonels some early momentum.

The Tigers broke through with 4 runs in the 3rd, the first on a wild pitch and the second on an RBI by Blake Balthrop.  Zach Moss and Landon Snyder each had 2-out singles, with Tim Cansler following with a single to bring in 2 runs.

Logan Durst drove in the Tigers’ 5th run with a 2-out double in the bottom of the 4th.  The Colonels threatened in the top of the 5th, but Isaiah Forrest was thrown out at home on Underhill’s second double of the game.

Hopkinsville added the finishing touch with a pair of runs in its half of the 5th, with Landon Cook singling to drive in the final run.

Chaudoin walked 3 and struck out 14 to grab the win.  Underhill took the loss for the Colonels, lasting five innings and allowing 7 runs, 5 earned, on 9 hits with 3 walks and 10 strikeouts.  Preston Phan pitched the 6th for the Colonels, striking out two.

Moss hit safely three times, Landon Snyder had 2 hits, and Durst, Cansler, and Cook had the other hits for Hopkinsville.  Durst, Balthrop, and Cook each had an RBI, and Cansler drove in two.

In addition to Underhill’s two hits, Brylle Javier, Josh Snorton, and Houston George each hit safely once for the Colonels.
