Just a week ago, the Christian County Lady Colonels jumped out to an 8-0 lead over Muhlenberg County and then had to hold on tight for a 9-6 win over the Lady Mustangs. Thursday night at Christian County High School, there would be no such near comeback.

Led by a strong pitching performance from Gracie Harned and an offense that pounded out 16 hits, including two more home runs, Christian County cruised past Muhlenberg County 12-2 in a six-inning victory. The Lady Colonels, who entered the game with 8 home runs, got long shots from Pickle Winkler and Aalaisha McGregor, to pace the attack at the plate.

Christian County broke through in the bottom of the 3rd inning on an RBI single from Pickle Winkler and a sacrifice grounder from Riley Hancock to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Colonels very nearly then ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, when they plated seven runs. The big shots in the inning were the solo home run from Pickle Winker and McGregor’s 3-run blast.

Muhlenberg County managed to score a pair of runs with two outs in the top of the 6th, but with the way Christian County was playing, that only delayed the inevitable. Karlee Crick drove in a run with a single in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-2. Aalaisha McGregor then ended the game with a single, driving in her fourth and fifth runs of the game.

McGregor finished the night 3-4, with a home run, a double, and five RBIs. Pickle Winkler was 2-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. Karlee Crick finished the night 3-4 with an RBI. Riley Hancock, Tenley Gilbert, and Gracie Harned each had two hits in the game.

In the circle, Gracie Harned went six innings, giving up two runs, one of them earned, on seven hits, striking out five, and walking none.

The win, which was the Lady Colonels’ 6th in a row, moved them to 7-1 on the season. Christian County now heads off to Georgetown this weekend for the Dan Powers Softball Classic, where, in their first three games, they will face Assumption, Lafayette, and Barren County.
