Kentucky was right fit athletically and academically for Keaten and Destin Wade

Kentucky hit the Daily Double Friday when twins Keaten and Destin Wade of Spring Hill, Tenn., gave their verbal commitment to UK over home-state Tennessee, Virginia, and Louisville. Both are considered consensus top 500 players in the 2022 recruiting class and four-star recruits. That gives UK four four-star recruits already in the 2022 recruiting class and odds are Charlestown, Ind., offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin will join them Saturday night when he chooses between Kentucky, Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, and Michigan State.

“Boom and we are not done. Go Big Blue,” Kentucky recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow tweeted after the Wades’ commitments.

The Tennessee twins said they picked the school that had the same sense of family they liked and also provided the best fit academically, geographically, and athletically. They also thanked God for blessing them with talent and to their parents for all they did. Then they put on UK hats and also revealed they were wearing UK shirts.

Keaten Wade told CatsPause recruiting writer Josh Edwards said Tennessee was second in their recruiting choices followed by Virginia and Louisville.

“It was very tough [to tell Tennessee no]. They’ve just been great to us, filled with energy towards us. It was a hard decision at the end. But we’ve decided to go with what’s best for us,” Keaten Wade told Edwards.

Keaten Wade is a 6-5, 225-pound outside linebacker and is rated as a top 200 national prospect by three recruiting services — ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports. Destin Wade — 6-3, 205 — is ranked 280th nationally by ESPN and in the top 500 by the other recruiting services. He plays quarterback but is listed as an athlete by recruiting analysts.

They play at Summit High School and won a state championship last year. Keaton had offers from LSU, Michigan, and Oklahoma with interest from Clemson.

Steve Clinkscale was the lead recruiter for Kentucky and they took an unofficial visit to UK last weekend. They could not meet with coaches but toured UK’s facilities for a second time and obviously liked what they saw.
