After two years away from the diamond, Chandler Moss is making up for lost time.  The Crittenden County senior used her bat and her arm to lead the Lady Rockets past Trigg County 5-2 Friday.

Moss had three hits, including a home run, and struck out eight in the circle to get the pitching win.   With Crittenden holding on to a 3-2 lead in the sixth, Moss followed an Ashlyn Hicks single with a home run to left-center field for a pair of insurance runs.

In the circle, Moss scattered six hits and struck out eight while allowing two runs.  It’s been a journey back to the diamond for Moss, who missed the 2019 season with a knee injury and the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 shutdown.

Crittenden scored twice in the third inning when Kalli Champion followed a Hicks double with an RBI single. Champion came around to score on a ground out.

Champion plated Crittenden County’s third run in the fourth inning when she drove in Brylee Conyer with a single.

Trigg County got its two runs in the fifth inning. Jaci English laced a one-out single to right. Rylee Hendricks followed with an RBI triple. On the next pitch, Phelan Dossett drove in Hendricks with a double to left.

Champion and Moss each had three hits for Crittenden, who totaled 13 in the game. Hicks and Jada Hayes both added two hits.

Trigg County had six hits, with Emma West coming up with two of them including a double.

West struck out four in the circle for Trigg and only walked one.

Crittenden County, playing its first game in 11 days due to COVID-19 protocol, improved to 2-3.  The win also counts toward seeding for the district tournament.

Trigg County fell to 1-3. The Lady Wildcats will play two games Saturday morning in the Kelly Russell Classic at Russellville High School. Trigg will play Russellville at 10 and Logan County at noon.
